چکیده

Ongoing research is discussed on the development of operating-system support for enabling mixed-criticality workloads to be supported on multicore platforms. This work is motivated by avionics systems in which such workloads occur. In the mixed-criticality workload model that is considered, task execution costs may be determined using more-stringent methods at high criticality levels, and lessstringent methods at low criticality levels. The main focus of this research effort is devising mechanisms for providing “temporal isolation” across criticality levels: lower levels should not adversely “interfere” with higher levels.

VOSYSmonitor, a Low Latency Monitor Layer for Mixed-Criticality Systems on ARMv8-A

With the emergence of multicore embedded System on Chip (SoC), the integration of several applications with different levels of criticality on the same platform is becoming increasingly popular. These platforms, known as mixed-criticality systems, need to meet numerous requirements such as real-time constraints, Operating System (OS) scheduling, memory and OSes isolation. To construct mixed-cri...

Providing Hardware Isolation on Multicore Platforms: What About the Operating System?

Efforts towards hosting safety-critical, real-time applications on multicore platforms have been stymied by a problem that has been dubbed the “one-out-of-m” problem: due to excessive analysis pessimism, the overall capacity of an m-core platform can easily be reduced to roughly just one core. The predominant approach for addressing this problem introduces hardware-isolation techniques that ame...

A safety concept for a wind power mixed-criticality embedded system based on multicore partitioning

The development of mixed-criticality systems that integrate applications of different criticality levels (safety, security, real-time and non real-time) can provide multiple benefits such as product cost-size-weight reduction, reliability increase and scalability. However, the integration of applications of different levels of criticality leads to several challenges with respect to safety certi...

Mixed-criticality scheduling with memory regulation

The state-of-the-art models and schedulability analysis for mixed-criticality multicore systems overlook lowlevelaspects of the system. To improve their credibility, we therefore incorprate, in this work, the effects of delays from memory contention on a shared bus. Specifically, to that end, we adopt the predictable memory reservation mechanism proposed by the Single Core Equivalence framework...

DREMS: OS Support for Managed Distributed Real-time Embedded Systems

Distributed real-time and embedded (DRE) systems composed of mixed criticality task sets are increasingly being deployed in mobile and embedded cloud computing platforms. These DRE systems not only must operate over a range of temporal and spatial scales, but also require stringent assurances on the secure communications between the system’s tasks without violating timing constraints of the ind...
